What Are The Current Emergency Lighting Service Requirements

Emergency lights are designed and installed to illuminate exits or exit routes in the event of power outages, accidents, fires and failures to the lighting systems. 

It is law that all commercial buildings, HMOs, factories & warehouses must be fitted with emergency lighting and The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 states that emergency lighting must be fully tested at least once per year for commercial and industrial buildings by a fully qualified engineer.

Emergency Light Checks

PTS Compliance are NICEIC accredited specialists for emergency light testing and installation and have engineers nationwide. Whatever the size of building or location we are here to help. We test emergency lights in all different settings and industries, from schools to commercial offices and retail premises. Our services include:

Emergency light testing can be scheduled as a one-off compliance check or as part of an ongoing programme of testing and certification. PTS Compliance can provide remedial works and fixes where necessary, along with all the required emergency light test certification.

Insurance Approved Certification

As we’ve mentioned, authorised certification is a requirement for the majority of businesses and a lot of building types, including HMO properties. 

Following a successful test; the PTS Compliance engineer will record the results in your log book and this should be kept to demonstrate your companies compliance and can be used in any legal challenges if ever required.  As part of our service not only will receive all required insurance approved emergency light test certification but in 12 months time when you are required to re-certify the lights, we’ll email or call you and see if you need our assistance again.

How Often Should Emergency Lights be Serviced

All emergency lights should be checked monthly or even weekly by a competent person or duty holder within the business. This is a short functional test in accordance with BS EN 50172:2004 / BS5266-8:2004 and involves simply turning the lights off then back on again. This functional test should be recorded within your log book. The duration of this test should be sufficient to check that the luminaire operates correctly .  

Why Do You Need To Check Your Emergency Lights?

In order to adhere to BS5266-1 standards, you must have your emergency lights tested annually.Depending on your requirements and building type, we can also work with a designated member of your team to ensure the compliance of your space, including performing monthly tick-box quick checks to avoid surprises and breakdowns.
We are able to provide regular inspections with our customers and work closely with them to manage any fire and safety requirements. All our engineers are fully qualified specialists and will be able to perform other electrical and safety tests at the same appointment.

    Emergency Light Testing Fees

    A full drain down service from as little as £149

    We can certify your emergency lighting with our full 1 or 3 hour drain down service.

    We do require a minimum invoice of £149 chargeable. This is to cover the engineer to complete these checks.

    Express & Multiple Certification Available

    We offer a same day certification option for an additional £10 charge, and are also able to offer multiple certificates or asset registers at extra charge (price on request).

    No Call Out Charges

    PTS Complaince do not charge call out fees to travel to your premises to undertake work.

    Where it is not readily available, parking fees may be incurred.

    Out Of Hours Testing
