Measure • Analyse • Optimise — accurate electrical load monitoring to reduce costs, prevent overloads and improve power quality.

What Is Electrical Load Monitoring?

Electrical load monitoring is the process of measuring and analysing the power consumption and characteristics of an electrical system over time. It uses sensors, meters and data loggers to capture metrics such as voltage, current, power factor, harmonic distortion and load profiles. This data reveals how, when and where electricity is used and provides the foundation for energy optimisation, predictive maintenance and system safety.

Why It Matters

  • Cost savings & energy efficiency: Spot inefficiencies, load peaks and wasteful usage to reduce electricity bills.
  • Prevent overloads & protect equipment: Detect circuits or equipment operating beyond safe limits before failures occur.
  • Balancing & power quality: Identify uneven loads, harmonics and poor power factor in three-phase systems.
  • Planning for growth: Use real load data to properly size cables, switchgear and supply capacity for expansions or EV charging.
  • Compliance & safety: Maintain records to support regulatory compliance, insurance and due diligence.
  • An early warning system: Detect anomalies and trends that often precede faults.

Our Load Monitoring Service: What You Get

1. Site Survey & Equipment Setup

We place meters and sensors at main incomers, feeder panels and critical circuits to gather representative data across your distribution system.

2. Data Logging & Recording

Continuous readings are collected over a defined period (hours, days or weeks), including voltage, current, real/reactive/apparent power, power factor and harmonics.

3. In-depth Analysis & Reporting

We convert raw readings into practical reports showing load curves, usage profiles, peak periods, imbalances and power quality issues — plus clear, prioritised findings.

4. Actionable Recommendations

Recommendations may include load shifting, circuit rebalancing, equipment upgrades, power factor correction, or changes to operating schedules to reduce peaks and increase resilience.

5. Optional: Ongoing / Remote Monitoring

For continuous oversight we can provide long-term or real-time monitoring with alerts to detect anomalies immediately.

Typical Use Cases

Our service is valuable across many sectors, including:

  • Commercial buildings & offices
  • Industrial plants, factories & workshops
  • Data centres, server rooms & IT infrastructure
  • Educational, healthcare & public buildings
  • Sites planning EV charging, expansion or retrofits

Why Partner With Us

FAQs

How long does the monitoring period need to be?

It depends on operations. Many sites get representative results in 48–168 hours; more complex or seasonal operations may need longer monitoring.

Will it cause disruption?

Disruption is minimal. We use non-intrusive methods where possible and schedule installation to avoid interference with normal operations.

Can load monitoring help with fire risk reduction?

Yes — by detecting overloaded circuits, abnormal currents and heating trends, monitoring contributes to electrical safety and risk reduction.

Do you offer ongoing monitoring?

Yes — we can supply remote/logging systems with alerts and regular reporting for clients who want continuous oversight.

WHAT DOES 7 DAYS LOAD MONITORING COST?

• Fixed and straight forward prices £595 per supply

Included within the price is our engineer attending your premises, installing the logger and returning after the test duration to remove it.

• Out of hours testing/servicing options available

The engineers will work around your business requirements and will even work throughout the night if that suits you. For a bespoke quotation for overnight work, simply call us today to discuss your requirements with one of our Account Managers.

No call out charges to travel to your premises

At PTS Compliance we do not charge call-out fees to travel to your premises to undertake work, however, parking fees may be charged if on-site parking at your premises is unavailable.
